Going through the dictionary makes me sad So many words I have never had. I used to think I had a fine brain. Doubting myself, these words are inane. If you don’t believe me, this you must do. Choose any old page, and wander in, you. I think you will be shocked at what you soon find. Unless you have a much more developed, keen mind.

I think I will go to a used book store this weekend and buy a dictionary - they are like a treasure map of the mind-

They entertain me greatly. I can spend way too many hours reading words I do not remember ever knowing before I saw them for the first time.

Here's some consolation for you: In the 2010 edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, THE authoritative dictionary of English, there were 439,000 some-odd entries. The average native English speaker has a total (active and passive) vocabulary of between 20,000 - 40,000 words. Real word-demons get up to 90,000. So even they only know 20% of the words... Feel better?! Have a great Friday! :) gw

I do now. Hooray! Then I do not have to lick my wounds all weekend now. Yes!
