Deplorable Dejection

Deplorable dejection is despair.
It goes beyond mere human fear or dread.
It’s hopelessness, for which there’s no repair.

And should it cloak you (oh so hard to bear),
it's like a second skin you cannot shed.
Deplorable dejection is despair.

At times it visits youngsters (sad yet rare).
Most young folks do not have it in their head.
It’s hopelessness, for which there’s no repair.

Some bring it on themselves- caught in a snare -
with misery’s addictions they may tread.
Deplorable dejection is despair.

When caused by sheer bad luck, it’s most unfair,
for some know they are soon to end up dead.
It’s hopelessness, for which there’s no repair.

Some say to trust in prayer, but please do spare
me this. I know for certain when hope’s fled.
Deplorable dejection is despair.
It’s hopelessness, for which there’s no repair!

Your Villanelle lines impress Andrea. Congratulations on your wonderful second place win. This form is a difficult one to create so that the lines don’t seem forced. You are a master poet my friend. Blessings xxoo

They say, when you are imprisoned long enough; you learn to love your chains&cage. It's the same with all sorts of negative feelings. Certainly with despair. Congrats on your fine win, Andrea.

thanks for realizing that, Bill. Good thing you are in Texas. One of the saner places to be living right now.

Deeply moving poem skillfully performed, Andrea. The dejection truly was an original method to convey the agony that they felt on the inside.  Blessings and best regards

Your words are full of truth. The younger generation is not as acceptable at our advice given to them. Sad. Well written and great theme. Be blessed my dear...

Truly one cannot just be told to pray. They need close contact, shoulder to weep on, and some unfortunately never make it back from the edge. If some ailments be a curse only God can help them. Great one with succinct emotion!

I hope that this is just what you know and not how you feel. Great villanelle though. I know we shouldn't be too critical of how others handle metre but yours is spot on and I love that.

The odds are stacking up, against this era of mine and so many of us, Andrea, i read this poem, from my point of view, brings so much to mind, my health having put me on alert. But i'll never stop fighting against what i believe, is a generation hell bent on destruction, and when we try to educate them. A deplorable dejection. They don't want to know.
