Death Waits
She saw him standing alone
on the corner. Black hooded shirt.
His dark eyes downcast
She glanced at him then hurried by.
Sparing not a thought; Work doesn't wait.
She saw him sitting Silent
alone in the crowded diner.
Waving away the Girl; the steaming cup
untouched before him.
He looked familiar. Did she know him?
Barely a flash of thought. A date won't wait.
She saw him across the heads
of dancers. Leaning on the thin rail.
An almost smile on his full lips.
Daters twirl and swirl Between them.
A flash of Knowledge as shots fire.
Black eyes meet Hers; Hand outstretched.
Recognizing she grasps his hand.
Death no longer waits.
