Dealing With Discrimination
We were separate, but not equal in this nation.
For many years after Lincoln's emancipation,
our people had to deal with discrimination.
Whites did many things to frustrate us.
We had to sit behind the white line on a bus.
We had to enter public places through a back door.
This was a discrimination practice among many more.
From certain water fountains, we could not get a drink.
What would happen to us? What do you think?
Today, these all seem like a crime.
Things have eased a bit with the passage of time.
