Deaf

What is it to be truly deaf? Most say it is to lack hearing. But I think true deafness is being unable to hear those around you. To walk through life only hearing what you want to hear or what concerns you, oblivious to the troubles, pains, sufferings, or even joys of others. I think we have to make a conscious effort to not become deaf, because our own lives can seem so loud they drown out everything else. Take time to listen, tune out yourself, make room in your ears to hear what is around you. There are stories to hear; complex tales of joy and love, hurt and anger, sadness and loneliness, faith and miracles, revenge and rage, stories we call life. To be truly deaf is a truly horrible thing. So listen.
