Darling of Daddy
She is daddy’s darling, five and fancy.
Her backpacks and masks match her shoes.
And she has a variety of them too.
I have never met her Mommy.
This is the third week of school
So, we have been in session twelve days.
I have seen her masked in:
yellow daisies on orange checks
Rhinestone “believe” on a black background
Pearls on pink and purple
A large toothy shark mouth
Multicolored cosmos
Dinosaurs on polka dots
Peach and gray floral
I have sixty masks she tells me.
Her daddy smiles, and I do not doubt it.
