Viewing window made as skull hits stone Domes are forged in shattered bone Trapped inside this open space Shadows obscuring expressionless face Reflections of the hangman's noose As arms outstretch to catch the truth Scraps of wall show cracked repair Heads hanging with weight of despair Infinity clasps with an open hand Silence reverberates unspoken demand Within catchment we dwell in heat Airless lungs catch breath of defeat No remnants left of sand drawn plan Details missing of out of sight man In plain sight lay all sought for clues Keys for locks lost by dancing fools Mechanisms seize, no handles turn On sun scorched retinas images burn Nostalgic breeze makes senses implode Repeating patterns we cannot decode

Dali ... A real treat :) The first thought when I saw this picture was the uneven wall seemed to represent the facade we present to the world. The apertures representative of our inner self containing various experiences... Then I read your emphasis and like your interpretation better. Love it :)

I only now have the time to get back with what I wanted to say yesterday. Dali did another painting, Mad Tristan, where the wall also featured prominently. I think I might do a comparison ekphrasis.

I've sometimes returned to a painting and written an entirely different poem before knowing. The mood of the moment can play a part :) thanks for your enthusiasm x

I’ve never seen this Dali painting before, but can see how it evokes a sense of indecipherability to the observer, but hey that only serves to draw Dilly in, and come up with these fantastic abstract interpretational pieces, could I write this one never, but it’s great to sit back and be surreally entertained by Dilly/Dali, love it, cheers David

You're too kind David. I saw it earlier and started writing stood at the school gate hoping no-one was looking over my shoulder :) you never can tell what will suddenly spark something. Thanks for such an enthused comment, appreciated

Dear DD, You and I must be on the same page this week as we write about existential despair. I loved how you showed that we are caught in cycles of suffering and meaninglessness that we cannot fully comprehend or escape from. We as a society do struggle to find purpose or relief in a harsh, unforgiving existence. That is where I turn to God. Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Thank you Daniel - there is a lot of scope in existential despair for poetry making it fun to explore. Thank you for your wise comment

Yes, plus one skipping, then a shadow of something out of sight too. May be we are only supposed to imagine what's through the next window?

Thank you Jan, probably half the time he was just painting for money :) still tons of content to spin with. I just wish I could have zoomed in further to see more tiny details with this one. I appreciate your support, thank you!
