Daffodils Know Why
Forty-two degrees, some gray in the sky;
but still I walk... and what should strike my eye?
Daffodils are sprouting; I questioned why.
"It's winter, what's up?" I asked one nearby;
"Spring is coming!" I heard her clear reply.
Daffodils don't ask why, but still, they speak
of purpose and planning as they take their first peek.
Though to us humans, the weather may seem bleak,
today they saw the sun, the first time in weeks.
They’ll be ready for Easter, April sixteenth.
