Notes About The Poem

When I first got to Yale, in 2020, COVID still gripped the world - I got them to take this when I got my real ID. "How will they recognize me without my mask?" I asked.
.

cry havoc

hunting the Rue Saint-Honoré
leaves me no breath

when women brawl for fashion
with warrants of gold
we become lions

every eye looks
taking hunter's aim
in piteous chase

the hares we hunt
are the new, the hot, the exclusive
not the lower marked

cry havoc
for animals heave fewer groans

only wars, revolt and poisons
attend more frightful chaos
one could come to hurt

but fault no villains
that is not our hunting language

we are confederates in chase
seeking the swaggers of success
.
.

Cry ‘Havoc!’ and let slip the coin of sartorial procurement, that fine linen may drape one’s form in couturial splendor. / ❤️

I LOVE linen. Surprisingly, I love wearing men’s cut, linen, long-sleeve shirts - HEAVILY STARCHED. So starched that they will stand on their own (if you lean them against the wall or something). That you have to work your arms into a little at a time, flexing your fingers to loosen the sleeve enough to let your arm in. When you get it on, it’s cool, because the stiffness keeps the fabric from touching your skin. It’s a delicious feeling.
