Cover Girl
Splashed in lilac scent and robe of satin
She contemplates her choice of dresses
In her hand a string of pearls
In her trance, a cover girl-
A curling iron upon her tresses
Pale as a mushroom
In her room
A counter spread, from where she grooms
Her closet filled with many choices
Her cupboard filled with many faces-
Eleven selves on seven shelves
A jar of this, a tube of that
To smooth a line, or cover time
A puff of magic on her skin
Erase, define, her artist’s brush
Will shape a line, or paint a blush-
A peach to ripen on her cheek
A berry, picked, to add mystique
A bit of blue upon the lid
A sparkle brown extends the lash
She twists her mouth…a dash of shine
A shadow, cream, a paste, a gloss….
A drawer of rainbows from the shop
A Cover Girl lies in jar
Yet, what has mattered most of all
is all the beauty in her heart
