God created us with those desires. However, we are born sinful, desiring to please ourselves, regardless of God’s moral law (Romans 3:10, 12). When fleshly desires rule us, taking priority over God’s will

Existential freedom vs strict dogma? Does upbringing unbalanced disclose agony, after the ecstasy, there's still a question ~the most intimate feelings are also the most universal—Poetess

Nestled is the slender twisting trail canyon between timeless steep
aspiring mountains and meditative sopheric sea waters
The frail road deepens into lofty thickness further from the harsh
volcanic valley where passion’s throes are ever in abeyance as days grind
on at a petty pace, as winding cathartic minds strive to be free and leave their
fears of mortal sin, intrusive family— religious dogma dismissive, oppressive
My yearning heart writhes in agonizing prose knowing senses magma
guilt etched into my very core, now behind
I’ll unwind, in a soft bed of sand that awaits
Spring’s strong winds of life call, visible the sea in the
distance, in instance, heads tilt, abut, falling upon my
wooer’s shoulder, he presses gears, downshifts reaching tireless
slate-gray force spreading over ocean floors flooding with no remorse
An uncommon gallantry he displayed, a warrior’s valiant looks
fired up my very essence
A dimming sun immerses into a hesitant horizon, sweeping breezes spin
warm spells embracing an enchanter’s realm,
with its charm he gazed into languid eyes
Silhouettes stark, foreheads bow, touch, sweetened sweat from
jasmine bushes alongside the road, perks of riding the stallion of steel
evoked smiles in sideview mirror, heated rims, spokes spun
Dismount a stroll, toes sank in sand, holding hands dodging driftwood
washed ashore, I chose a serpent shaped, a souvenir!
I’d glue turquoise stone eyes, a keepsake, or an omen?
Zena’s cove of guilty pleasures seal fates, certainly
not rhythmic lapping waves against the shore nor salmon sunset
or a waxing crescent moon, and not the wistful ocean’s teary spray
Its tears wetted my cheeks in afterglows
Lest moonlit sky amongst shy hidden stars

Pangs subside, panic betides, doctrine ridden not from our marrow
Womb’s flower in bloom, a secret kept, an advent arrival
The planets wept, forms beyond birth of celestial bodies,
one existence yet does sin exist in celestial angels?
He held tightly, softly whispered let’s run away,
his proposal on adulthood’s precarious cusp,
bestowed him a refusal, sweet youth ruins

Alas and alack life proceeds
steady as ebb and flow of the tides
After a precious gem she’s named, sweet lord
never more blissful, daughter
Caressed are tranquil ocean waves

Dear anaya, sweet soul, Wow! I am left breathless reading this profound and sumptuous take on the prompt theme, woven with so many emotions in such a metaphorical manner using symbolism and subtle alliterations and imagery to depict all your thoughts , how beautiful and introspective and soulfully moving! So many lines stood out for me especially “My yearning heart writhes in its agonizing prose, one knows and senses the magma guilt etched into my very core,” ah so descriptive and such brilliant diction! Absolute pleasure reading your poems today! Hope you are doing well! Sending you light today and always

Ahh, I'm hoping I didn't overdose on the metaphors, but it was amusing for me and I really enjoyed writing of the dramatic courtship, it can be therapeutic and cathartic, as well as providing a balm for those facing the same challenges and dilemmas. Healing is good, Ty Empress for your light today, so heart-warming ! ~xhugs

Anaya, we are definitely wired to behave in certain ways. There's no doubt that we seek pleasure. I'm not of the mind to call any of that sin, but we do need to control out impulses in a society at large where we just can't take or do whatever we want. In your poem above I was struck by the suggestion he made to run away (elope perhaps), but the refusal was made and these things require an agreement in a fair society. Sometimes we're ready to transform ourselves and sometimes we retreat or choose something different. A lot to think about here. Smiles!

If we just went by our animal instincts, we'd be on an Atilla the Hun rampage everyday, ha. The pressures at 17, 18, 19 years old have them running far from the oppressive, domineering and suffocating doom of dogma back at the ranch, marriage at that tender age is a chance they'd take. I looped Runaway by Jefferson Starship for ambiance and mood while letting the muse works it way. This concerns the struggles of thoughts of a Catholic raised girl compromising her "innocence". Ty you for visiting, always curiously awaiting your thoughts~xhugs

First let me say this is first rate poetry and I think Daniel will be impressed. I know I was. Regarding allowing sin to rule, I believe the Creator of humanity knows what's best for us. Surely he never intended for unwanted fetuses to be aborted before they ever see the light of day, unwanted children born to abusive or apathetic parent(s), sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS, etc etc. Independence from God's moral laws has produced much human misery, all for a few moments of bliss

Hey Tommy, yes it certainly is a good bible study, I think those things happen to folks who've stray away from the teachings. This goes deep into the mentality of the whole and I can use some therapeutic thoughts as well as your biblical verse perhaps Daniel will like the dramatic courtship and craftsmanship like you, Ty!
