Contest-We Don'T Need No Stinking Contest- Food For Thought

Hey why didn't I place? Were my rhymes and grammar not up to your high and mighty standards? I know maybe you don't like me and we're not in the same “cyberspace” click. Or I didn't soup mail you to butter you up and pretend like I want to be your new internet buddy. Whatever the case I will write on whether I get an N/A or if I even place at all. Because I write for me and I want to get better at my craft. Furthermore, I do it for plain old fun. This is just something to think about when you host your “ stinkin” contest. Very true. I have collected 8 N/A's since July and I don't enter that many contests but I write what I enjoy, and if I get some great comments then I could care less if I don't make the lists. Congratulations on your spot on contribution Alexis! Well done! : )

it is a really lovely poem, I don't k ow about the sponosr but I absolutely love reading it, don't worry, Teppo is right, after a while you will get used to getting N/A, don't mind, contests are only for fun, here winning don't matter, just have some fun, and if we lose, that don't mean that our was bad, it simply means that others were better, since getting a position in premier contest is difficult, I only apply in standard contest

as far as contest are concerned....it is just the inspiration that I yearn....anything that can fuel my pen....to me is a Blessing so I already win....because mortal validation is not what I seek....I want to touch and help strengthen the hearts of those who are weak....very profound and powerful write alexis….;)

While I am inspired by some contests, I think some of my best writing comes when I am not specifically writing for a contest. I like Lyric Man's comment, "never sell out." John

My very good friend, when your poetry is good, do not worry about placing in contests. I have had many of my best poems, highly acclaimed both on this site and other forums--given NA BY CERTAIN CONTEST SPONSORS, INCLUDING ONE SPONSOR THAT GAVE ME SEVEN NA in a row in seven of their contests contests in which 4 of the poems later were awarded POTD . In fact that poet has never awarded me even an honorable mention--this goes back over 5 years now. And no I will not ever name this guy..

Some of my very best poems came about because of contests. I know when I write something good. I’ve had POTD that have failed to make the cut in contests. There are some judges that I know before I enter that I have no chance of placing but I do anyway. It’s a game of sorts. Keep the ink flowing.

Contests are not an indication of the quality of the poem, but how much a judge liked that particular poem in their contest.. Never feel disheartened Alexis...
