Lately, perhaps due to the Covid lockdown, I find myself thinking about past pleasures; the little things, I've all but forgotten. Like my first trek in the woods, alone, one with nature, I felt unshackled from the hands of time, and fueled by the imagination of youth I let nature nurture and encourage my curiosity. And I think back on the innocence I once had, and why I can never have it again. Back then, I was blind to the truth and had to feel my way along life's bumpy path. Every day was like an ongoing fantasy, filled with laughter, friendship, and play. Once in a while, late at night as I fall asleep, I find myself picking through memories recalling a smile or a tear, usually both, often simultaneously. And I ponder on the fact that in my youth in a simplified, homogenized world, I lived uncomplicated and free, only to spend the rest of my life trying to regain what I once had, and yet can never have again. This is going into my FAV file, Emile. I love this, especially the last four lines. I think, as I grow older, words like yours resonate more soundly with me. Good work.
