Cold Turkey Lover
If love is like a drug, as said,
I guess she must have made me high;
this junkie took his fix in bed
and thought, I'm hooked until I die.
But after highs, I hit a low,
and craved her loving drug again;
one awful day, she told me 'no':
I'd never felt such wretched pain.
I did cold turkey for a while
and begged her for another fix:
no love, no kisses, nor a smile;
she said, 'I'm sick of turning tricks.'
My memories are clouded, black,
of love that made my life a hell;
but now I'm clean and can't go back:
addiction's over; all is well.
