Cold Evening Problems
COLD EVENING PROBLEMS
Trying to stay warm in front of the fire
Draughts find their way to my leg, waist or higher
Like little cold water trickles
They insist on touches and tickles -
Coming over the window ledge
Sneaking around the inner edge
Of the closed windows fore and aft.
I move to a warmer spot with no draught;
When I settle they swarm towards me.
I am attractive like jam to a bee.
How do they know where I am,
Like radar guided jets (not turbine but ram)?
I put rugs against the cracks -
Still those airborne watery attacks.
In desperation I seal up the door,
Then find trickles coming through the floor.
Now it’s double socks and sweater -
Can’t think of anything better.
Those squirts of cold air wash over
Me even as I try to hide and cover:
Maybe the only way for me tonight
Is go to bed and snuggle up tight.
