Clouds of July

It's been a cloudy, flat July Confined by brittle yellow grass Crooked fingers of tattered brass Misty draped mornings, damply dry A breath of heat escapes the chill To stir dull blooms, waxy and still Void of colors of butterflies From edges of my eyes pass through Memories in orange and blue Summer rays in meager supply Warm rain thinly dabs the willow Barely touching branches below Til grace of evening stars comply by length of lavender twilight Reviving my soul with delight It's been a cloudy, flat July Misty draped mornings, damply dry Void of colors of butterflies Summer rays in meager supply Til grace of evening stars comply 7/26/20 Entered in 'Constanza - Old or New' contest Judged 09/05/20

Hi Michelle, This is a good entry for the contest theme. My months have been “ dull” since March. Best wishes in the contest. Have a great day and weekend:-) Alexis

Yes, both can be a challenge (July and writing Constanzas) but you handled the poetic obstacles with apparent ease and lucidity. By the time the sun sets, we are so ready for "by length of lavender twilight / Reviving my soul with delight". As does your poetry.

Summer twilight, like I mentioned in another poem, is one of my favorite things - it is the reward at the end of a stuffy humid afternoon! Hope you are enjoying your summer!

You have so poetically, so delicately informed us that ~ July's sucked. Oh, I just couldn't resist. Truth be told, this is a delightful read, and here's to a winner in the contest, Michelle! Best always, Gershon

Wonderful description in images of July, Michelle, in this hard to execute form. Well done, indeed!
