Christmas Angst

I remember the anticipation of Christmas Days passed so slowly as excitement filled the air Practice for special Christmas pageants at church Worrying that I might forget my part in the play, Listening while plans were made for Christmas Day While feeling that something could prevent a visit From Santa. Lots of talk about being extra good For Santa had been known to deliver lumps of coal To little boys and girls who had been naughty How awful it would be to find nothing under the tree! Excitement mixed with apprehension, even fear That the thing you wanted most wouldn’t be there, Even though you had been warned it was awfully Expensive, and “Santa is short on money, you know.” Hope was high, especially as we shopped for small Gifts for family members and marked off the days.

Your memories of Christmas as a child match my own. I enjoyed that.

Yep, I suspect that would be true of many post-World War II children. So happy you enjoyed it, Caren.

Ahhh the naivety of childhood, Milt. Love your lovely words :) "Don't you wish you could take a single childhood memory and blow it up into a bubble and live inside it forever?" Sarah Addison Allen - PS: I'm in a waxing lyrical mood this morning :) Cheers - Gary

Yep, that would be splendid...or would it? I'm not sure there are many times in my life that I would like to repeat over and over again like Groundhog Day. Still, it is an interesting thought. Not gonna happen, I'm afraid. When you wax lyrical you should write another one of your fantastic poems!
