Chichen Itza

Stars form patterns to Ancient's Zodiac. Creatures emerge, especially the snake. Mayan watchers see the serpent go back, Back into the earth at Equinox break. What portends, only prophesies can make. Past the temple is Astronomer's dome. There prophets see futures where the stars roam.

Oh wowww what a mystical and bewitching piece this is! It feels like an ancient breath of profound secrets, so carefully engraved upon the skies that have aged.. "There prophets see futures where the stars roam" Eloquent descriptions throughout with impeccable wordsmithery.. I'm also very much interested in astrological aspects and how the planets as well as constellations can knit our every moment ~ beautifully done! Sending best wishes, loved reading your work after a long time :)

I used to be hooked on Aztecs and their philosophy . Today, i am horrified by our own fellow humans who expect us to honor and make peace with those out to destroy us. We are a teagedy in the making and we are in awe of our future henchmen. We were never taught history well. AlasI We honor past civiluzations while decrying our own? Your poem qiuite .effective, made me use my head. Thank you..Pangie

Hearkens me back to a time long before we were born, when sages read the skies and predicted (correctly!) the future. ... Today it's a lost art.

Interesting. They claim that the stars we see are in the past, some may even be gone. Thanks for the information.

Many prophesies are made looking at the position and movement of heavenly bodies. Prophets and seers are able to see and interpret many signs and future occurrences. This is so very timely as today is the equinox.

The Ancients knew a lot about the movement of celestial bodies without much of the technology we have now

I hope you enjoyed this celebration for the equinox. Words from the ancient astronomers was similar to rural people in America reading the Farmer's Almanac.

A beautifully written poem that I fully enjoyed. It covers an engrossing topic, about which I am very interested. It's fascinating to learn about very ancient sites like this one. I would love to see Chichen Itza. :)

Thank you fr the compliment. Chichen Itza is probably the most famous ancient Mayan village in Mexico. It had various buildings and a sports arena. It is a worthwhile trip.

This reminds me of one summer when a group of college students I was part of climbed an "Aztec" pyramid...the Pyramid of the Sun...at Tenochtitlan, outside of Mexico City. There was a distinct feeling of "ancientness" about the place. Chichen Itza, being even more ancient, must really be incredible. A very enjoyable read, Hilda.

Thank you for reading it. I posted it the day before the actual equinox on September 20. We're halfway to the solstice.

Indeed, the stars are yet studied as mysteries, no nearer -- in fact, many having traveled further away, out of sight. Enough of them always remaining for each of us to make new constellations of his own.

Astrology was part of the Mayan religion. It helped them keep time. The Mayans had a snake god. I'm glad you liked this poem.
