Cemetery Ridge

Autumn in the woods. I looked
around, up yonder to Cemetery
Ridge. Tried to count the leaves,
so many fallen, Nature’s colorful sighing.
Thought of uniforms, brothers in gray and
blue; blood fresh...and then various stages
of drying. Did we learn our Mother, so much
like her leaf on tree -- rooted in dirt, dying
to be set free?

A solemn reflection on autumn leaves fallen and the ones lying silent in cemeteries. Thoughts sad and worth pondering. A beautiful poem dear Joe.

Hi Valsa; a sad reality about life. Seems like humanity never runs short on wars. Mystifying. Thank you my friend.

And 'the youth' rioted over 57,000 total dead in Vietnam over many years.... More stoic back in those days, for sure.

As CayCay said, 620,000 dead. Many resting in unmarked graves. God knows their sacred names I am sure.

- A profound one, considering all those who fell and are missing, Joe :) - hugs

Hi Anne; I think civil wars are the worst. Not that any war is good. Have a great writing day my friend!

'up yonder' makes me ask 'would you like some grits'? However, Gettysburg infers otherwise. 620,000 of our own bled into America's soil. At least it wasn't called a 'war in the name of God' - ignorant that. My peps are Georgia folks (none had $ for slaves.) Dad was military so I only lived there one year when 4. Because of slavery the south had to lose so mankind could win. Your thoughts mirror mine, how it must have felt to 'be THERE', I can just quiver & imagine. Your ending brought tears.

Hi CayCay -- a great tragedy. Life is so precious, yet today we often think of only sides. And not fathers, mothers and children, all sacred and equal parts of God's blessed creation.
