THE SCREAM BY EDVARD MUNCH

The scream By Edvard Munch A blood red sunset radiates warmth; yet I feel chilled to my core The alien like androgynous figure transfixes me Dressed entirely in black, head clutched in tormented agony Mouth open emitting a silent scream This cannot be heard audibly yet resonates in waves across the canvas A ravaging river of anguish grey, black and blue Angry swirls depicting mental torture. I stand and stare at the picture and pray I never feel this way Celebration of Art Contest Sponsored by Kim Rodrigues 05~14~17

Excellent Jan. The ending is hard hitting for obvious reasons. This is a great prompt for us because it forces us into a different perspective than normal. I enjoyed reading an unfamiliar voice from your pen

My wondrous Jan, how are you doing? I see you haven't lost the art of awesome poetry my friend!! This piece is so descriptive of this painting that I can picture it without ever seeing the painting by the words of your poem, it is that good! I miss reading everyone's great poetry! I have many poems that are in the works, but I have to master them within my poetry classes to get them where I want them to be! I'm still in school getting my Master's in poetry! I'll see you later! Great work!!

Oh wow Russell that is wonderful news about your studies:-) As a complete novice to writing I have learned so so much from joining PS in 2014 and tackled so many different forms which i find quite challenging at times:-) I can't wait to read your new poems and see how poetry is written properly! I just write from the heart and hope people like it but I will always try and write humour whenever the muse is behaving!:-) hugs Jan xx

I've seen the Munch Museet in Oslo, and all paintings by Munch. One of the best experiences in my life. Beautiful poem about a painting that is very important and recognisable to me. Good luck, Jan :)
