Caring For a Sick Husband

She could not suppress a shudder, Her heart beat faster with a flutter. He lay unmoving in a deep coma, He should have a drink, a semi-cold soda. A nurse ran about checking all gadgets Checking she had all the right tablets. Time passed slowly she got used to the smell. Until she left when she heard the time-up bell. Outside the hospital, she sat in a cafe. Someone came over with a coffee she had to pay. Would her husband live or dismally die? Somehow life will solve itself by and by. A doctor saw her weeping and sad. Told her to and rest ner her husband's bed.

I think we all have a reserve of strength that we can draw on when challenged by life. It will see us through the most difficult of circumstances...Delice

A lot of faith and strength goes into care giving, and so making patients comfortable at all times is priceless. It's heartbreaking what one goes through when a spouse gets ill. Warm hugs.

So sweet and dreadfully tragic Victor. I was so VERY lucky a few years ago to have been able to stay with my husband almost every minute while he recovered from a heart attack I just praise God he pulled through that. They let me lay down next to him on his bed, that was so kind of them. Compassion from the medical world is priceless. I remember when some of my children were able to be with him and I went out to the parking lot, I fell apart in a mass of tears. Oh my, this really makes me pray.

Terminally ill must be so hard on a family because everyone suffers even though it is in a different way for each person. Thanks for sharing this emotive work. I am glad I chose it to read today. Thanks for dropping by my page. Sara

Caregivers always have it tough, both physically and emotionally (and financially). Then, breaking point. A cross most need to carry at some point in their lives

Dear Victor, your poem has taken me back to the time my husband was taken seriously ill last November and seeing him in intensive care and a nurse checking his gadgets, twice I was called in as they thought I was going to lose him. I remember a doctor holding my hand as I wept. Fortunately Alan has survived and is slowly recovering. Bless all doctors, nurses and healthcare workers… Belle

A doctor saw her weeping…oh for the doc to show compassion (I know hospice does). A woman I met had a son who was having fluid removed from his brain, told her priest about having a drink…he too showed compassion. The Holy Spirit gives rest to the weary…lay on the hem of Jesus garment. The Great Physician soothes a forhead. God bless!

Dear Victor, so very touching. I can link partly to it. Caring for a loved one breaks you more because you make the journey of his decline by his side. Only selfless love can make a spouse walk that way. Touching words there. Thanks for sharing. ( Sunita UPD)

Victor, your writing is really moving and fits the topic perfectly. I am quite impressed, as always.  It is not simple to be concerned for the well-being of the person you love.

this describes it perfectly . My Dad's last wife who was with him when he got very sick went every single day to be by his bedside and only went home at night. She did this for four or five months. She was a good wife to him because he was mentally ill and did not treat her well.

Hello Victor, when my husband was sick i stayed with himuntil darkness set in. someone drove me home. It is hard when a husband is sick and the spouse can not do anything for him. So she cries. Enjoy your day my friend.

Helping someone you truly love through a serious illness requires such strength, patience and faith. The final line is a great one, because it is what occurs after you've given it your very best. Great writing, Victor.
