Calm

Calm is the silt beneath the waves
The measured heartbeat of the brave
It is the fragile petal born
From gardens of pernicious thorns
A velvety cadence under
The jagged footfalls of thunder
The pearlescent aura you breathe
From centers of calamity

Calm is elusive murmurs heard
Where sharp cacophony is stirred
Into harsh, unrelenting drums
As order wavers and succumbs
When my soul, snagged in turmoil
Stretches towards a turquoise soil
And life's timing lands out of reach
You'll find me on a forlorn beach

Michelle, Deep, multi-dimensional, exquisite and, I felt, a calmed passion, but passion to be sure. A very vivid penning with a giant scope. Very moving! Hugs

This is just WOW poetry, Michelle. I could write a comment about every single line you have written. Your metaphors are so rich and fresh, and each one exudes a vibe of calm. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be "A velvety cadence under / The jagged footfalls of thunder". It is so pleasant to be able to retreat to a calming place such as a vacant beach or peaceful mountain cabin, but the real secret lies in finding the calm where "sharp cacophany is stirred". Great rhymes and flow as well... I think this is one of your best, Michelle. Going straight into my faves.

Love your reflections and ponderings on the nature of 'Calm.' As for plain old me, I just always hope that 'Calm' is not prelude to a storm! Smiles for miles, gw

That's beautiful and calming, Michelle. You're right--we do think alike :) it is the fragile petal born from gardens of punitive thorn. Elegantly spoken. Good luck in contest!
