Look at what's happening today,
hate's openly put on display.
It seems like folks changed overnight,
and lately, life just doesn't feel right.
A smidgen of truth, spiced with lies,
fake news makes my blood pressure rise.
And I'm more frightened every day,
for I fear war is on its way.
When I'm feeling overly stressed,
my heart starts to pound in my chest.
And as fear and dread alternate,
I start to hyperventilate.
My pulse quickens; I gasp for air,
and danger signs are everywhere.
I take a moment to calm down,
pause life and turn myself around.
I close my eyes, meld with the dark,
and picture a walk in the park.
Switching off reality's light,
I allow thought to be my sight.
And with my mind back in control,
it works to calm a panicked soul.
And listening to songs of whales,
my pulse slows down as calm prevails.
