Burden of Proof
Sat in the pub his cellphone chirped, one text showed as unread,
'Where are you?' read the message, 'in the pub' his reply said.
'You're not, you're seeing someone else, her place or in your car,
so send me a selfie picture now to prove just where you are'.
He duly did, inside the bar, surrounded by his mates,
she checked the metadata in the shot for time and date.
This routine became habit, not just one or two times more
him trying to have fun, she sat at home, so insecure.
One day she sent her text as usual, knowing where he'd be
he answered 'with another girl, be home by half past three'
'Oh, very funny', she replied ' you've made your point, I know
that I should trust you so don't send me any more photos'.
He read that text and smiled, then swung his legs over the bed,
his mistress sat beside him, placed a kiss on his forehead.
' You're clever, one reason why I love you so many ways'
'I know that,' she said, ' but didn't I say honesty pays?'
