Broken Wing - Words of Hope For a Young Cancer Patient

In the woods beyond the city lights, Stood a tree that knew no fear of heights, An oak majestic, its foliage lush, The perfect home, both safe and plush. A family of thrushes claimed it as their own, To raise their brood and see them safely grown, In loving comfort they went about their days, Warmed and nurtured by the sun’s embracing rays. As the years flew by the fateful day arrived, For the first one born to spread those wings so prized, Showing little hesitation she readied for the flight, With no fear or second thoughts to jump from that great height. The breeze rustled the leaves as she took her final step, Then soared above the canopy with unbridled joy not dread, Her proud but anxious parents gazing in the sky, Each minute an infinity as they observed her fly. And then it simply happened, no rhyme or reason known, She tumbled in a spiral when just before she’d flown; But angels were around her and caught her as she fell, Cradled in their arms, as nestled in a shell. She’s now back at home, a little sore and bruised, Her family around her, relieved if quite bemused; But time is a great healer and this will also pass, A few more grains of sand through life’s mystical hourglass.
