Broken Links

We are all broken
into separate pieces
Brothers uncles
mothers and nieces
Fractured ways of thinking
Cool-aide drinking
Caught between
real and false
Can you feel we’re all sinking

False prophets
We have become our own religion
relying only on ourselves
for every decision
Believing the answer
is accomplished through division
We fools stopped seeking wisdom

Too big a gap
between higher and lower
The world moves fast
but our thinking grows slower
The rich protect themselves
in their high tower
Unrest grows hour by hour
Who in the end
do you think holds the power?

So crumbs are thrown
to the masses
But that won’t stop
the clashes of the classes
Change is happening so slow
it flows like molasses
There are too many people
sheltered in under passes
Plastic dollars are of no use
No one will be left
to pay Caesars taxes

Black, brown
yellow and white men
When will they
see clearly again?
Will each own the other’s pain?
Red blood flows within each vein
This current world order
is impossible to maintain
Every man woman and child
is an important part of the chain
They all need love,
food, shelter, sunshine and rain
Top heavy systems will topple
under the strain
When it does
we will all have to begin again.
If we think this is working
We are no longer sane.
At an essential level we’re all the same
can’t you feel
We’re circling the drain?

Until we “each own each other’s pain” can we truly empathize with each other? I think not.

Glad I came back to this one, it is prophetic. Not that U are fire & brimstone, but Richard, in your calm way, YOU TELL IT LIKE IT THIS. This unfair order is not sustainable without increasingly horrendous crimes. Now, on "SHALOM": Jesus told his disciples to share SHALOM two by two (Mark 6; matt 10) with the Gospel, & John 14:27. It is the Isaiah 26:3 and Jesus' "Peace beyond [human] understanding." Peace that FREES us!

Another amazing poem Rick, I like the rhythmic melodic feel when it is read out loud. Classic line clashes of the classes...flows like molasses! Awesome write..too bad the truth is in there and it's pretty sad!

We seem doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes and not learning from them each generation. Kind of feels like a hamster on the wheel. Good stuff Rick! Congratulations on your deserving honor of POTD! xxoo

Very impressive poem with a lot of profundities to expound upon... "Believing the answer is accomplished through division" ... I would say that not all division is inherently bad IF the dividing line is truth and untruth. The things a populace could all unite behind could be littered in errors ... and we'd all fall off the cliff ... lol.

It seems peoples idea of truth is becoming more divergent. Caring for ones neighbor has been replaced with protectionism. The haves abandoning the have nots. The rich believing they provide wealth and jobs for the country. The fact that the gap is growing, proves the system is broken.

I am short of words. this pandemic has taught us a big lesson, which is: GOING BACK TO THE BASICS. We need to start giving back the value of the things we should appreciate more: Love, family, kindness, sharing, humanity and give vanities less relevance. I am not surprised this turned out to be POTD. Well deserved my very good friend.

Really well done, really true, wondering what the future will bring, will people rise up without destroying each other? Will they stand up for the earth. So have thought about all of this -- wonderful to see it written so well in a poem Put this in a magazine or a newspaper, people have to start thinking about this.
