Braving the Salt Marsh
Braving the Salt Marsh
Silly young boys
Returning from a day
At the beach,
In the sun.
The tide is coming in,
‘We’ll cross the salt marshes back,’
They said to each other.
And the tide laughed silently.
Burdened with little but towels
The boys ventured
Toward the breakwater,
Toward safety
Tide rising,
They looked at each other.
Can we make this?
As they lifted their arms.
Towels dry in their raised arms,
The sea rose around them.
They rushed against the incoming waters,
Laughing nervously.
The sea at their shoulders,
They reached the safety
Of the breakwater.
They laughed with joyful relief.
