Blue Daisy Bouquet
Back in the days of ‘62,
she carried daisies that were blue,
a blue bouquet to match her heart.
Marriage wasn’t very smart.
Both sets of parents did agree,
married these two had to be.
Dispensing all the guilt and shame,
from a boy with no last name.
She was sixteen and still a child.
Inside her bosom, dreams ran wild.
Yet said she, “I will” that day,
trembling behind a blue daisy bouquet.
Now mature hands hold an open book.
In a lonely moment, she takes a look,
to touch a petal, far from new
from a bouquet of daisies, that were blue.
Then a deep, strong voice fills the air,
with heavy footsteps on the stair.
"Mama, I came to see you today."
Quickly she puts the brown petal away.
