I sat on the patio watching the grass move in steady waves, those long heads of golden seed as calming as harbor waves. Their movement was synchronized yet independent, their hues so close yet unique. While they danced, I heard the song of crickets and the chirps of birds, content to be warmed by the sun’s warm, gentle rays.

without fanfare
quietly sustains its life
