Ghazal
A poetic form consisting of couplets that share a rhyme and a refrain. The couplets have lines of 10 syllables (Including the refrain). The refrain can be a word or a phrase. There is internal rhyming in line 1 and 2, and line 2 of each couplet with the refrain. Each couplet should be able to stand alone. There is no limit to the number of couplets in a Ghazal. However, a min. of five stanzas is required. The poet may insert their name in the last line.
The streets are set on fire, black lives matter,
though things are looking dire, black lives matter.
Through aggressive force and senseless killings
police have raised black ire, black lives matter.
In riot gear cops attack the crowds,
and batons fuel gunfire, black lives matter.
Blacks and whites marching for equality,
set the nation afire, black lives matter.
Despite the blood a black family spills,
death's what bigots require, black lives matter.
A black man shot in the back seven times
ignited a bonfire, black lives matter.
When white cops suddenly start shooting blacks
panic spreads like wildfire, black lives matter.
There's so much hate in white America
that it may well backfire, black lives matter.
Remember Hitler's far-right agenda,
Jews burnt behind barbed wire, black lives matter.
Examine the foundations of your faith,
my voice leads the choir, black lives matter.
