I originally wrote this poem 9-12-15. It is dear to my heart. It's a true story that happened in my childhood- Alexis
When daddy brought you home l loved you instantly. You were my friend and my protector. Throughout the years you became part of the family. My love for you will never end. There's a special place in my heart reserved for you alone. As l look back down memory lane. I remember the day you left us. That sad day is forever engraved in my memory. On this day you ran out the gate into on coming traffic and got hit by a car. I cried until the tears had no longer fell. I was devasted l not only lost my pet dog, I lost one of my family members. Daddy buried you in the back yard of the old house. Rest in peace my beloved Big Red. 12-4-16 Alexis Y.

It's a sunny early spring day here, fairly cold yet the sun's power waxes - it will not long be denied. Lambs will be born, the grass will green, and puppies will run through it. I came back to read this sad but good story, cascading down through memory.

Wow Alexis, this is heartbreaking. I know how this feels and how the tears just don't seem to ever want to end. This was sad but beautiful at the same time, a wonderful poem to the memory of you dear friend. I loved this poem.

I really feel bad about what happened to your pet. It's really devastating, when something like this happens. A 7 for this heartfelt poem.

A very sad and emotionally touching poem, Alexis. I can relate since I've always had a dog throughout my life, and had a few burials too. An excellent heartfelt poem. A true 7. A fave for sure. Love always.

I can feel your pain on this very lovely poem my dear friend, Alexis. I've experienced having big red two times before and it really hurts. Thanks a lot for sharing and stopping by on my poem. Have a great new week! Hugs!

Galeo - yes, even if they die of natural causes, it's a profound thing. Have known some dogs - Great Danes, Great Pyrenees, that only live 8 or so years on average. A hard thing, that so-much-shorter life span.

so very sad this is, Alexis. I think many of us have our own "big red" and we can feel your pain and great love for him here.
