Cliché's about waiting annoy me.
Virtuous people are not always patient.
Long ago I learned that ranting
does not make the hands of a clock
wash its face more quickly.
I wait for the rain, then wait for it to pass. I could
twiddle my thumbs, twirl my hair, and roll my eyes,
but nothing will happen until it's meant to take place,
so I don't burden myself worrying about time going by.
I couldn't wait to be older and now that I am,
I wish I could be young once more.
The sun won't be hurried to give way to night
the moon can't wait 'til he drowns in the sea to rise.
If Nature cannot alter time's speed, how could I?
I can't slow down time or move it at warp-speed.
I'm often kept waiting in lines like everyone else,
and when I hear the exasperated sighs at my back,
I smile and think, "I'm so glad that's not me."
I'm happy to be alive and have all my senses,
because waiting on life is better than life waiting on me.
