Beyond My Window
when summer delight is over
and on the ground the leaves lay
and nothing is green for it has turned color
oh, watch the leaves in their swirling, twirling
dance of tumbling and trembling
and the trees are wearing crimson and gold
oh, come down a forest path with me
where all around us nature is changing magically
then too soon, a cold wind is rattling my windows
while under blankets I snuggle warm and cozy
and my garden flowers will bloom no more
as they have gone to sleep
yet, still the birds sing for me each morn'
and the trees are bare and brittle swaying
just waiting for their gowns of pure white
and a fireplace flickering gives me true peace
as a wild artic wind howls
beyond my window
