Beware Vanity

Vanity chuckles, smirks and snorts, It walks with a limp at first. Then it becomes your shadow, And prods till you take notice. Vanity now works like slime, Clogging the channels of your mind. You think it's the smile of innocence, Not knowing that perversity gives life to it. Familiar faces greet you, you think, They are lesser beings that prostrate. After you have chewed pity inside out, Throw morsels of it to those around. No bridge, sea or desert is too big, To keep you away from their sight. Vanity then keeps working inside you, Until you become Vanity, without another shadow.
