Bestie
When I first met you, we were both strangers,
Who became the best of friends.
It’s a friendship I cherish with all my heart,
And I pray it never ends.
I remember sitting on the bleachers,
When you approached me….
I said “I’m Ian, what’s your name?”
And you said, “Tiffany.”
Who would’ve thought that from that day on,
We’d grow as close as we are?
I think of how proud you were that night,
As you saw me drive Ms. Shirley’s car.
The first time we had drinks together,
How much fun we had that night!
Although I don’t remember half of what I said,
I know it was such a delight.
Time would pass the both of us by,
And we know this to be true….
Lord knows there is no bestie,
On this earth more precious to me than you.
I went on to join the US Navy,
And left you feeling bad
and I made you mad,
All I want is to take away the hurt,
Cause you’re the best friend I’ve ever had.
We’ll hang out more and drink more,
We have so much talk about,
I’ll do anything to get my bestie back,
And I know this without a doubt.
I’m so sorry for what I’ve done,
Please know that I mean what I say.
Please know that my heart feels empty,
When I don’t hear from you day after day.
I’m not writing this poem for sympathy,
Nor am I asking to cut me any slack….
Just know that I am a man,
Who will give anything….
Do anything….
Just to have his bestie back.
