Bending Shadow Folding Light
far beyond cold light window edge
flirt and flutter
wild lashes of winter wink
wandering flakes
soundlessly sow
layers of lazy shadows, dust
over cool contour conceal
autumn rust
gentle narcissus and nasturtium snare
brooding violet and valerian
holy nocturnal vow consume
hungry dog star silence
wait and whispers
‘til gently
cries up and through to lowly beam
pane of glass strike, and with delicate fracture rimes
~ the child
peering into small circles, outward
looks for storms
inward finds
heaven and earth in dark desert bent
and he, in corner curl shelter slips
and folds into self, wasting space not
waits beneath the silent thunder
held mute in frigid winter throat
there to spy with violent eye
in heaven fire wayward sworn
the keels of passing ships awry
dipping oar, war keen
cutting limb and flesh
into spinning halos
of blood and brine divine
yet, before hard and fast
the setting of clay memory forms
and naked fury eternal seduce
he clutches shut
wasp vision wicked
holding instead a sliver of something that once was
a sensation, an abstraction, a derivation
once
less
dark
…until
morning
where in grace she falls upon him
holding the North Sea in her palm, diamond wide
which craves only to climb
his wall
and flow around
his
cool
body
