Ben Franklin's Turkey

Witty Founding Father Ben Franklin

Gave his contemporaries many a grin.

Although he wanted the turkey to be our national bird,

Fortunately John Adam’s “eagle” had the final word.

O.K. by me if the national bird is a turkey. I'll take drumsticks and a twenty-one gun salute. Super humor, Carolyn. Love ya. daver

Great Clerihew my friend! Glad to see you writing these as well! Yes, he did want the Turkey and he has his reasons, all of which were really good, but...it was a Turkey! They just couldn't have that for a national bird! Glad they chose the eagle, much better! Great work with this write Carolyn! Awesome Job!!

Reminds me of the debate between Howard DaSilva and William Daniels in the movie musical "1776". Good clerihew Carolyn.

LOL, love this one, Carolyn. When I first heard about the turkey, I wasn't quite sure if the chap had been serious or not...

Certainly there was reason why "eagle" was taken instead of turkey as national bird, but you pictured it nicely. Loved it and best wishes for the contest, bl
