Beloved Pets
Two cats in the house, one white and one black
My lovely pets, I call one Kite and the other Jack
Wherever I go my close company they always keep
On my bed by my side every night they like to sleep.
Jack would climb and roll over my sagged shoulder
Kite would lie on paining thighs, for I’m getting older
As my wife sits on the sofa knitting a scarlet sweater
Fur and wool strands make them a colorful character.
In separate bowls I give daily food to Jack and Kite
We’re in need of peace, don’t like to see them fight
All the sounds of the room cut off, I sit in the dark
Listen happily the rhythm of the cats’ silent walk.
I won’t let anyone touch or caress my charming cats
Nor like them to be called my animal pets chasing rats
For Jack and Kite are like our beloved children already
I don’t care a bit if people call me a cat man crazy.
