Being and Nothingness

He awakes and listens for the clamor of the city only to find he cannot hear. He gets up to find he cannot speak, and the silence is deafening, overwhelming. He still sees the world in all its peaceful beauty, until it all goes black. The smell of breakfast cooking slithers up his nostrils, disappears. Struggling in confusion he longs for restitution, but then... the faces of his children, the whisper of the leaves, the scent of fresh cut grass, the softness of a woman's skin the flavor of fresh strawberries forsake his memory...

This is a wonderful poem, Keith. Sounds like it might be about alzheimers? A father of one of my friends had this...can be totally debilitating. I'm not sure if this is about that..I'm on a roll for misinterpreting poetry lately.:( I did delete my comment on your poem, "Ecstasy". It sounded lewd and lascivious..sorry Keith.:(( Best to you...Love, Mikki

This shows me we shouldn't take any of our senses for granted. Cherish them all and every moment. Great write. Continue to share.

We all seem to have a facination with death, I just had a friend commit suicide and I have a hard time dealing with it. This discribes alot of what i try to feel just trying to cope. Nails it, (not a pun) Good work Judy Riley

Sounds like you hit the loss of abilities that comes with old age perfectly. This is a strong message. I love it!

Yes, those crafty mortal ticklers try to drown any chance for contemplation and meditation and awakening, don't they? It is hard work seeing past them. excellently expressed truth here, keith, love, Kristin

This is amazing, for you captured death, and how earthly feelings fade away....or maybe when one is fading into the world of forgetfulness...always, Christy
