Behind Her Smile

Listen to poem:
Her heart was throbbing We could tell Though she always managed To hide her tears With a smile Bottled up inside We could tell It was a façade A guise to distract Make everything seem right The hurts she had suffered No human deserved Loss and trauma Seemed all she knew So much more than Anyone could cope with Her heart was bare And pummeled by hail Bruised for none to see Behind that All too perfect smile She died soon after Of a broken heart Liberated Submitted on February 25, 2022 for contest SOME BROKEN HEARTS NEVER MEND sponsored by FARAZ AJMAL AP: Honorable Mention 2020 Posted on July 8, 2018

So true. Behind every smile is some story that hides unseen. Each of us hild some secrets that are well covered by that smile. Loved your poem.

I believe so many people have died of a broken heart, but we forget to give it credit. And it is amazing how hard we cover this broken heart up. I am amazed by the honesty of your poem Line.
