Behind Her Smile
Listen to poem:
Her heart was throbbing
We could tell
Though she always managed
To hide her tears
With a smile
Bottled up inside
We could tell
It was a façade
A guise to distract
Make everything seem right
The hurts she had suffered
No human deserved
Loss and trauma
Seemed all she knew
So much more than
Anyone could cope with
Her heart was bare
And pummeled by hail
Bruised for none to see
Behind that
All too perfect smile
She died soon after
Of a broken heart
Liberated
