Be Still My Soul
Private times are owned by God
but highly utilized by me.
Quiet, solemn, prayerful.
Early mornings, most before
sunrise, and many days before dawn.
The atmosphere feels pure, and I sense
The 'better me' is being prepared for the day.
The greatest time of my day, having no rival.
Freedom captures me; calm and poise arrest me.
Most times, I proceed to the prayer closet with
a hot cup of coffee in hand, soon to be followed
with the Holy Bible in hand and heart. Some
like their coffee black without anything added,
but I do not claim to be a pure coffee lover.
Hot coffee is my favorite drink, but it's not the
taste of coffee that soothes my entire being.
Rather, it is the combination of heated liquid
satiated with the succulent mixture of sugar,
coffee, and cream: and it's the cup imprinted with
the words, 'Let the peace of God rule your hearts'.
It is not often that I will have coffee during
other times of the day. Yes, it's the early quiet
zone and the very hot temperature of the coffee that
invigorates my being. When it all comes together,
I am enriched with The Presence of God. At this
point, I am still and begin to worship God.
Yes, early morning coffee, The Holy Bible,
and quiet prayer embraces my soul.
