Bad Feelings

All we ever did to you was try to be good to you was try to tell you things you needed to know Why do you hate us so? You never listen, just get mad demonize us, call us ‘bad’ and throw us out in blizzard air and leave us there (hoping we’ll lose our voice or just die and be gone for good) All we ever did to you was try to be kind to you was try to show you things you needed to see Instead- you shut eyes tight against the light stuffed us in a closet clean out of sight tight space smothering suffocating (as you imagine us wilting and withering away) We care for you- you hate us anyway All we ever did to you was try to be useful to you was try to help you as feelings you needed to feel, But- you pretend we’re not real You keep on telling yourself we’re all in your head you can just pretend you didn’t hear anything we’ve said But, stop calling us ‘bad’! We may be ‘uncomfortable’ ‘unpleasant’, even- but we’re not ‘bad’ We’re here for you- and feelings, well… “have feelings, too”!

I kept thinking "wow, that's a horrible relationship!" until I read your comment below. Yes, so true; we need to accept our feelings.

Thank you for the comment! I may actually rewrite this one sometime to make the point a little clearer... But, I kind-of like that the reader doesn't fully see it going in- I think that drives home the point that we have a "relationship" with our feelings! ;)

Emotions are there to show us that something is wrong, and I can see by this proactive poem, that you have not only figured it out, you know how to pour it onto the paper in the most cathartic way. Well done, my friend. Keep them coming. Honesty in a poem is the best we can do. It is wonderfully written, Rhona. My muse and I are taking off our hats and bowing at you.

This poem is about how we ignore or avoid our unpleasant, 'negative' feelings instead of heeding the warnings they are trying to impart... We have (all sorts of) emotions for a reason- and none of them are "bad"!
