Away From the Familiar
Away from the familiar
There are things to stop and see
That the locals take for granted,
Not worth uttering a “Gee!”
Honking geese above the water
Where a pair of swans float by,
Sprawling high schools, fields of football,
Nothing built to block the sky.
Singer in the supermarket,
Shops with fresh, exotic wares,
People going ‘bout their business
At their parks and trails and fairs.
It’s a treat to visit someplace
Where you haven’t been before
And the ordinary somehow
Strikes you as a whole lot more.
