We have an old house and need sewer service periodically due to roots. That means hiring a company and paying for snaking the line. The last technician explained how much less trouble we can have based on product selection. We have changed brands and so far, so good! Now, we'll never appropriate a roll from a hotel and subject ourselves or neigbors to the scene depicted above.

About toilet paper guests swipe The staff at hotels have a gripe They say steal it not And buy one-ply Scott Which won’t clot your home’s sewage pipe

LOL. Thank goodness i’ve no experience with this. Must occasionally deal with dogs’ smudged behinds. Wish I could call call some company to come do that! Informative limerick. Haha. Altho must say one ply sucks for blowing the nose. 8-)

OMG Sally, there are a lot of dirty jobs that we can't escape from. I agree with you all about single ply and it's limitations for a variety of uses. It does help keep the drains working. In this old house of ours, we could be sabotaged by someone flushing a paper towel. That would require a drain service and at least a couple of hundred dollars or more down the tubes.

Ugh! I used to have rentals and what people would flush down toilets could drive a man mad! Thank goodness for the roto rooter guys

Yes Tom, I am tempted to excavate and replace the old line, but that really gets pricey. It's sometimes hard to know what's the best approach to a problem. I'm currently seeing how long we can go between services. If I can get it to two years, I will be very happy.

But they're very expensive!

Tom, we've probably had these specialists here almost ten times in the past twenty years or so. We keep and eye on things, but worry about guests since they may be tempted to flush a tissue or paper towel. I sympathize for what you went through. When the people for the service we use show up, I am always so thankful.

What a great first line that I 'got' after a 2nd read. And interesting strategies that I've heard plumbers tell customers; but what a pain to deal with anyways.

David, glad you enjoyed this one. The hotel temptation has to be resisted! While some have home service on a schedule, I know when to call by opening the trap very briefly on a schedule. We avoid back-ups at all cost. It's an ironic part of life with modern plumbing. BTW we notice main sewer back-ups on a large scale occasionally in various neighborhoods. That's really awful too. The only thing worse is a catastrophic flood of an entire area.

Nice Limerick, Duke, and you solved your problem to boot. Have a great weekend, my friend. Bill

Glad you liked this. We're trying to extend the time between servicing in order to cut down on expenses. However, we can't stop using the plumbing so we think we're onto something good.

Jan, I love how you bring to life what many of us are thinking. I wrote one about something similar based on the riddle: What do toilet paper and the star ship Enterprise have in common? It was the limerick joke Iii, posted 12/21/2015 which you commented on. It may have been wiped from our memory until now. OMG, we've been at this for a while.

also made me think of the line - 'the job isn't over until the 'paperwork' is done ' lol

I really like this one. It is very metrical. I try to buy one ply to save money and hubbie complains.

IE, I appreciate the comment and of course, I love your poetry. There is so much that we go through in life so I figure why not write about some of that with some lightheartedness. I do love it when you send light!! I am feeling it and TY so so much! To you as well!

You are always welcome! If you have an old house and replaced the pipes so there are no roots in the waste line, you might get away with 2-ply. Personally, after the experiences I have and seen, I would only buy the single-ply.

Fun read, Duke--though when it happens its a big mess.

Yes it's awful, and there are things we can do to prevent it. We removed all tissue boxes from the bathrooms since we know that any paper product not designed for a flush is a disaster...and can we trust guests?

Another jolly limerick that makes sense. I like old houses. Sometimes they need renovation. This poem made my day.

Hilda, old homes have very interesting things within and are fun to explore. The outsides and lawns are also amazing sometimes. Here's something interesting....when we were using 2-ply, I could see the drain at the trap backing up and then releasing all at once. That is no longer the case, so I am now a Scott devotee. The drain is clay and we're hoping not to have to dig it up and replace it anytime soon.
