Autumn's Shiver
Autumn’s Shiver
There is an almost imperceptible shiver,
a subtle shift of wind’s breath,
felt only by those who know the season.
It is followed by a quickened pace,
not yet an urgency, but an awareness,
a reminder, of plans to be made.
The trees inhale the first drops of sap,
leaves feel the tingle of the coming crispness,
roots stretch their fingers one more time.
Flowers bow their heads in silent prayer
dropping petals in a tearless - “au revoir”,
as a season, and its fullness, slowly pass.
