Autumn's First Hush - the Villages, Florida
Autumn’s First Hush - The Villages, Florida
Autumn’s first hush, it’s almost imperceptible.
Maybe it comes in a brief welcoming breeze,
Cooling our damp skin on a late summer night.
But, long gone now is the blue August moon,
And September’s harvest can never be denied.
Autumn’s first hush, glimpses of slow beauty,
Never rushed, stealing summer’s fine scents,
And tingeing tree boughs with hints of color.
The cycle turns, we turn, and the seasons turn,
As winter whispers, just beyond the horizon.
Autumn’s first hush, when days of golden light,
Slip away too soon and stretch into darkness.
September’s first chill, hovering all around us,
Bringing relief from the unending tropical heat,
And promising the return of our Village friends.
Autumn’s first hush, the hourglass to winter,
The beloved crowds, the energy that lives here,
And as the calendar turns, we churn at full tilt,
The Villages, full of life, her sails fully unfurled,
Bounding along in calm seas thru the decades.
Shhhhhhhhh, listen…. autumn’s first hush.
