Autumn Hues Oh autumn, let your brilliant hues seep into my soul. Let the sweet scent of pumpkin pie return memories Of childhood days of Thanksgiving with members long passed. Bless us with their graceful wisdom. I remember grandpa sleeping Before dinnertime imbibing a bit too much grog. We'd call to him, "gramps...turkey's done", and he'd say"so what!" And go back to sleep. With grandma gone, holidays hurt, I can see that now, now that our kids have grown and gone A longing creeps in of holidays filled with laughter. I wonder and hope and wait. Will they come again? 9-23-18

Oh, Connie, your wistful poem is filled with longing for the past, of times together with beloved family, now gone.. your melancholy nostalgia melts my heart and moves my soul. You convey exquisite and evocative emotion beautifully. Warmest wishes my lovely friend.. ~Susan

Ah! Such memories stay alive in our minds, but they will never return....yet, we can give our grandchildren the chance to experience them, too! Love this poem, Connie; autumn's muse keeps you lovely company:) Regards // paul

Sharing stories lets our descendants know relatives that they will never know, a bit about their personality other than just seeing them through a black and white photo. Thank you Paul. : )

The passing of time does mean there will be losses so each fall is its own. You have real sentimental color in these words.

this is so nostalgic, connie. I keep forgetting the state you grew up in! This is for Silent One's contest? It could sure work for it.

Yes, I made it into ten lines. He mentioned he had a contest going on. I knew my grandfather after he moved to California from Kansas in the late 1930's. Thanks : )

Now that really takes me back years; thanks for a great memory of my own family holiday dinners. We had a houseful when I was a kid and I wish I'd recorded many of those old stories they'd tell. Sadly, one doesn't think to do that when you're young. A wonderful read.

Beautifully crafted Connie and such a delight to read, even though the finale did make me look back at those days and well, miss them when the kids were younger and things were different. But now I guess, the grandkids will fill those slots. : )

Having my granddaughter to help raise has made all the difference and is even sweeter because I am retired and not away from home so much. I have time to offer which is a precious gift. Thank you Chris. : )

Thank you Mike. My children live across the ocean. One daughter lives here and has blessed me with a granddaughter that thinks I hung the moon, so I cant complain but I do miss all my relatives who have passed on. Thank you. : )

I love how you incorporate family love, and people well-loved who have passed into this sweet poem. Grandpa is so real, I smiled at his part!

I never had a father growing up and so I was close to my grandfather. He passed away when I was 19 and I still think about him often. He never got over losing my grandmother. She passed away before I was born at age of 50. Thank you Caren. : ) xxoo
