A very dear friend gave me this little ceramic bird. I am dedicating this poem to Pamela.

Brown as a withered leaf Crimson neckband with flashing wings of winter taupe - bright green underneath. Perched each day in the window’s bay ever out of reach. If I could bring you in and teach your wild heart how to stay every secret I hold would tell me why you’ll fly away. Autumn Bird stay here with me and trill the notes to waken spring.

Suzanne, neat that your friend touched your heart with this gift. The real birds have to fly and keep us company for a while only. This is a great reminder of the nature of relationships and friendships as well. Life holds such joy and sadness together in sync.

It was the picture of your ceramic bird that drew me to this page Suz. So glad I stopped by on my quest for hidden Gems amongst poet's pages. This certainly is one. Your poem is delightful. I don't think of birds when I think of Autumn and Winter as the trees lose their leaves and birds fly to warmer climates, but your Autumn bird is unique and your poem is masterful. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Hi Wen: Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I am away from home being a snowbird. My muse is very naughty wanting to keep me out on the beach so no active writing going on. I appreciate your visit and will return it soon. Hugs, SuZ

I'm late to the party commenting on your poem Suzanne but I just want to say that it's a beautiful free verse. For me, I sense the bird here represents autumn in all its beauty but is real too. Writing of the highest order. Cheers - Gary

Hi SuZ! What tender lines not only honoring your friend's gift but expressing your longing for a deeper friendship with this wild bird. Lovely descriptive first verse full of colorful images! I have a hummingbird feeder outside my office window. When it is empty, my little friend scolds me from the top of the birch tree until it is refilled! I so relate to this poem. Thank you for sharing it! Blessings of health and happiness for the new year!

a lovely poem and dedication. I feel a special kinship with the birds that frequent our yard just beyond my office window. Right now they're hiding under the bushes, protecting them from the blustery northern winds. One day though, they will sing again, awakening spring. Have to fave this one. Have a splendid evening and new year, Sara

I agree, there is something of kinship between birds and leaves - the way they move and the fragility. ANd also that longing to connect with them.

I love that you see that too, Jeanette. They blend so well with the leaves. Caging a bird is the cruelest act. or any animal for that matter. They need the freedom of their wings, Thanks for your lovely comment, SuZ

Ah, neatly and with a spring bow, Suzanne. I had two bird feeders planted on the other side of the house because the little Java Sparrows will tend to the lunch on the unattended patio. They're set-to-rise 12-hour birds. By species, numbers rule, wrens, then doves; cardinals the most colorful is the least, like the doves, too big for the feeders, they peck the ground from droppings. Aloha, William

Mahalo William: I remember so well the birds of Hawaii-little Java sparrows and the soothing sound of the doves, the cardinals and my favorite the Sharma thrush , Such a songbird…….. What sounds came from him were beyond description. Birds are so centering wherever you go. God’s finest creation. So good to see you. Aloha, SuZ

Gosh, this poem truly touched my heart, dear Suzanne. It's the first one I'm reading today and I feel like floating in its meaningful essence, so beautiful and mesmeric.. The autumnal imagery that you've created whilst describing it in the form of a bird..just wow..So much artistic depth you've used here in the personification of autumn, as a bird.. Also, I really like that picture you've used too! "Autumn Bird stay here with me and trill the notes to waken spring" That's really heartfelt..a Fav
