As You Would Love Yourself
"Love your neighbor" it is said,
But that is just half the command.
The second part seems always unread-
"As you love yourself" - is truth, firsthand.
To care for yourself is greater,
From there comes the "you" who lives.
When that inner man is so crushed there
There is none of Love you can give.
When a neighbor does nothing but harm,
Love yourself enough to stay away.
Keep your fence up and your heart warm,
Don't let him drag you down his way.
Avoid neighbors who feed on what's dark,
Those who stab others in the back.
This is loving yourself, so make that mark-
Without their kind, there's nothing you lack.
