As I Get Older They Lay Me Down
when I was young my mother gave me to suck on her breast
It was true blessedness, gave me nutrients
She bore this child in wedlock and when I got a little older
I got off of her shoulder
As I got tired she laid me down
A sleepy boy with so much joy
Mama laid me down to rest
As I got older
As I got older
Older and older
glory to glory
what a story
As a young man I worked hard on the job
got off work late working ten hours shifts, out late
Being to tired could hardly get a praise on
But so grateful I'm delighted in my God for He saved me so. . .
As I get older
Over and over
Older and older
glory to glory
telling my story
As I got older
As I got older
Older and older
glory to glory
what a story
I'll finally pass away
Not before the telling of god's mercies and love
he's the only one above I'm delighted in my God the Lord gave me everything I've for so far
Being led by the love of God, Jesus help me in this cause
Twilight comes I'll pass away members of my family will pray
They'll say someday they to will be on the way
to say goodbye to one of God's child's
is like a child lost to a mothers love
I'd went away to be with Him the Lord finally and they'll say
lay me down, and then they laid me down
I will lay me down, I'll be laid down, laid down
lay me down, and then they laid me down
lay me down, and then they laid me down
I will lay me down, I'll be laid down, laid down
lay me down, and then they laid me down
lay me down, and then they laid me down
As I get older they lay me down
